Am I Running my Business, or Is My Business Running Me?

I was wrong! Before I owned a business, I heard people say “um that is not how it works” but I didn’t listen! I thought they were wrong and my business would be different. I would be a different kind of business owner. I had so many ideas about being a business owner and entrepreneur that were just flat wrong! Business is hard!

My perspective on owning a business was a lot like many others! I thought owning a business meant working less because there would be other people that worked hard for me. Making more money, not having to count pennies, or worrying about having enough. Being your own boss and not having someone else to tell you when, where, and what to do.

My perspective was completely idealistic and not realistic!

One of the biggest doses of reality I had encountered, was that as a business owner working was going to become a 24/7 way of life! Gone were the days of a set schedule with days off, leaving it all behind until Monday! As a new business owner/operator/magic maker/people pleaser etc. The roles I had to play and the responsibilities I had to take on were way more than anyone could have prepared me for! Every Minute of my day my mind thought about my business. It was all I talked about and everyone got tired of hearing about it. I was working harder than I had ever worked before in my life. There were no other people working hard for me. Everything in my business depended on me! I was not making more money and I was still having to worry about if there was going to be enough! I had no one telling me when, where and what to do but I suddenly was so overwhelmed running a business I needed someone to tell me what to do!

The early days of being a business owner were hard! Some days I thought I could not handle it! But in true entrepreneur fashion, I worked through it! I figured out systems and ways to help deal with the hard things! One thing I came to realize was that I may not be able to clock out at 5 PM and leave work behind until my next scheduled day but some of that structure was crucial to the success of my business and my mind. As a business owner, I can still set a schedule and make boundaries to stick to (the best I can anyway) even though no one else is telling me to! I can be my own boss, even if that means bossing me!

It is so important for your mental health, your physical health, and your business health. When you make yourself take a break to recharge and keep the other aspects of life in line, you will find you are more productive and capable to handle the hardships of entrepreneurship! My advice is don’t blow the boundaries! Make them, Set them, and try to keep them! You are the key to the success of your business… it needs you! If you need motivation, encouragement, accountability, help to create structure and schedules we invite you to email, call, or message us today so we can help you and your business have the breakthrough you deserve!
